May Chapter Meeting

18 04 2014

As mystery writers (and readers!), we strive to understand and accurately portray criminals, cops, pathologists, liars, murderers, detectives, the heroes and villains of our society. But always in these stories, there must be victims. The victim that the criminal targets, the victim that the police and detective try to protect and avenge.

Our May meeting features Julie Thomas from Victim Support Services of Washington. She will speak to us about the plight of the victim, the emotional impact, the characteristics, and the journey from violence to judicial resolution. Julie will also inform us about the role of the Victim Support Services. This non-profit group provides emotional support, assistance with navigating the justice system, assistance with medical and funeral arrangements, and will act as spokesperson to the media as well as accompany victims to court. Their website is www.victimsupportservices.org.

Julie will also be bringing with her information on how people can become involved or support the association. As usual with our monthly meetings, there is no fee to attend, but we will be “passing the hat” at the meeting for donations for Victim Support Services.

Meeting will be held at Angelo’s Restaurant, 601 SW 153rd, Burien at 6:00 p.m.
