Seattle Noir Panel on Tuesday, May 18th

16 05 2010

Unfortunately, our guest for our May meeting fell through, but if you’re itching to get together with mystery writers and readers, don’t fret. We’re happy to announce that this Tuesday, our own Patricia Harrington, Brian Thornton and Curt Colbert along with other well known writers from the recently published Seattle Noir Anthology, will be participating on a panel to talk about their stories, their craft and mystery writing in general.

Here are the details:

Description from Tacoma Public Library site:

“Seattle. The city’s evolution to high finance and high-tech has provided greater opportunity to those with sinister intent. Seattle Noir is an anthology of short stories by some the region’s leading authors. Join editor Curt Colbert, Pat Harrington and others for a reading and discussion on the challenges of writing noir.”

The event starts will be at the Tacoma Public Library’s Main Site (see directions and map here), this Tuesday, the 18th, at 7 p.m.   Afterwards the crew will head down three blocks to the VARSITY GRILL for schmoozing and fun get-together.  Place has a piano bar and we thought it would be fun to have an informal MWA meeting there.  Time would be about 8:15 p.m.  Believe me, Tacoma is not busy downtown on a Tuesday night, so no problems with traffic.  And the main library is just up the hill on Tacoma Avenue from the Varsity Grill.

More event details:

Event Type: Special Event
Date: 5/18/2010
Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Time: 8:30 PM
Description:
Book talk and signing.
Library: Main Library    Map
Location: Olympic Room

See you there!

Reserve Your Spot Now: First Annual Willow Award

18 10 2009

Get out your black ties and your best dresses, the Willo Award is coming!

In honor of the memory of two-time Edgar Award Winner and long-time Northwest Chapter stalwart Willo Davis Roberts, the Board of Directors of the Northwest Chapter has instituted what it hopes will become an annual event: the selection of an author with significant ties to the Pacific Northwest to be the recipient of the “Willo”: the Willo Davis Roberts Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award.

We on the Northwest Chapter Board are thrilled to announce that the inaugural recipient of the Willo will be none other than Seattle’s own J.A. Jance!

Although J.A. Jance is literally someone who needs no introduction to the members of the mystery-writing community, here’s a bit about this year’s recipient from her website:

“J.A. Jance is the top 10 New York Times bestselling author of the J. P. Beaumont series; the Joanna Brady series; three interrelated thrillers featuring the Walker family; and Edge of Evil, the first in a series featuring Ali Reynolds. Born in South Dakota and brought up in Bisbee, Arizona, Jance lives with her husband in Seattle, Washington, and Tucson, Arizona.”

And of course no self-respecting award would be much of an award without having a party to celebrate it. And no self-respecting party of this sort would be much of a party without the right master of ceremonies. And the Northwest Chapter is pleased and proud to announce that none other than renowned Northwest mystery writer G.M. Ford has graciously agreed to serve as the M.C. for this year’s event!

Below are the details. If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP to the following email address: willoaward@yahoo.com
