I am unable to find information regarding how to become a member of the Northwest chapter and where meetings are held and when. Does a new member join the national group first? Also are there any events planned for the balance of 2010? I would like to join in.

Hi Maggie – sorry for slow response. You don’t have to be a member of MWA to attend the local meetings. If you find yourself coming to many of the meetings and find yourself enjoying yourself and learning some things, we encourage you to join.

We have an event this Tuesday at Tacoma Public Library. We will be having more events soon and I will post them on the events page.

Hi,

Just want to respond to Maggie’s query. We do plan on the second Saturday in June, 6 p.m., at Duke’s Chowder House in Southcenter. We have a fun speaker, who has come before and shared good “cop tales.” Greg Hopkins is a Tacoma Police Officer, served as a Community Liaison Officer in Tacoma’s, often notorious Hilltop. He brings almost thirty years of experience and does not run out of stories. So do hope you can come.

Again, folks don’t have to be MWA memjbers to come. We have a bit of socializing before the actual speaker begins.

All the best,

Hi, Folks,

Thought I’d let anyone who is an active member of the MWA/Northwest Chapter know of a wonderful opportunity to teach creative, mystery fiction writing at the colletge level. MWA/National has initiated a MWA/University. Faculty members chosen, are active and published members in the mystery/crime field. Those chosen must also have a background or experience in teaching creative writing. Eeach chapter will have two chosen to be on MWA’s faculty and available to provide instruction at special literary and community events. Travel is covered. The process for selection is through the National office in New York. Details will be posted here as well as on our MWA/NW Facebook page.
